Background
Dr. Natalie Nugent is a fully licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of trauma and anxiety-related conditions (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, etc.). She believes in supporting symptom reduction, while simultaneously helping folks to enhance overall wellbeing and resilience.
Dr. Natalie earned her PhD from Eastern Michigan University, where she completed comprehensive pre-doctoral training in trauma-informed care. She went on to complete a clinical internship at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System specializing in providing evidence-based treatment to individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder. She has national certifications in both Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), as well as extensive training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). In addition to her trauma-related focus, Dr. Natalie has a passion for implementing third-wave behavioral therapies that emphasize mindfulness, acceptance of the present moment, and cultivating a meaningful life path [e.g., Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), etc.].
In addition to her work for McCaskill Family Services, Dr. Natalie is an active trainer and educator. She maintains a consulting practice, Lake Huron Wellness Consulting, through which she regularly conducts community and organizational training on trauma-informed care, the effects of childhood trauma exposure on long-term functioning, and compassion fatigue and burnout in healthcare professionals, educators, and other human service employees. Additionally, she maintains a position as a part-time faculty member at Eastern Michigan University, where she provides clinical supervision to doctoral students training within the EMU Community Behavioral Health Clinic, manages a trauma-focused treatment team, and teaches Clinical Organizational Management.
Personally, Dr. Nugent is a wife, mother, and lifelong horsewoman. She believes in creating a sanctuary within the therapeutic space, showing up authentically as a clinician and fellow human, and standing fully in the present moment.
Dr. Natalie is currently welcoming new telehealth referrals for Michigan residents and is working toward PSYPACT approval in order to expand her telehealth offerings to more than 40+ US States.
