GROUPS

Group Therapy Services in Brighton and Plymouth, MI.

Group therapy provides benefits that you may not get in traditional therapy. There’s a sense of camaraderie in group therapy that helps build traits such as accountability, self-discovery, and confidence. There’s a reason that support groups have become very popular when dealing with the symptoms of depression caused by a specific incident or affliction.

At McCaskill Family Services, we offer many different kinds of group therapy sessions to treat depression, control panic attacks, teach relaxation techniques, or reduce anxiety. Our group therapy options include equine therapy, eating disorder therapy, and teen therapy.

Types of Group Therapy We Offer

Our different group therapy sessions can help with treating depression. Your personal therapist can guide you toward the option that’s best for you. If you need additional depression therapy or anxiety therapy, then a group or couples therapy session might be better suited to tackling your own type of anxiety disorder. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills Training for Teens

Since the rise of the internet and social media, rates of teen anxiety and depression have steadily increased. Today, most teens report experiencing some level of emotional distress — and many are struggling to cope with overwhelming thoughts and feelings.

That’s why now, more than ever, learning practical skills through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can make a real difference.

Our Teen DBT Skills Group teaches:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress tolerance
  • Emotion regulation
  • Interpersonal effectiveness

These core DBT skills help teens better manage emotions, reduce impulsive behaviors, and improve relationships.

Group therapy is an especially effective format for teaching DBT skills because it allows users to practice new skills and coping strategies while connecting to others facing similar difficulties. Our DBT Skills Group may be a valuable addition to individual therapy. We will work with your teen’s individual therapist to ensure the best possible care.

This group therapy session is conducted via Zoom for $175.00/day ($1,400 for the full 8-week session). It is directly taught by Fully Licensed Clinical Psychologist Dr. Amanda Klingensmith and Jaclyn Rink, MSCP, LLP. Please call our office at (734) 416-9098 or email office@mccaskillfamilyservices.com to register now. Teens ages 13-18 only. Each teen must have an individual therapist. Registration is on a first-come basis. We only offer a limited number of spots to ensure personalized attention, support, and guidance.

Each group runs for 8 weekly sessions, 90 minutes each. Each 90-minute session is billed as a group therapy session with a licensed Ph.D. Psychologist. Since we are out-of-network providers, we will provide receipts you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Healthy Relationships for Teens

Teens are especially vulnerable to unhealthy relationships, with some falling victim to partner abuse. This group uses an evidence-based approach to help your teen learn the skills necessary for healthy romantic relationships. Our group therapy sessions on this topic are designed to raise teens’ awareness in spotting unhealthy relationships among themselves and their friends. They’ll learn the skills they need to develop healthy and gratifying relationships.

Equine-Assisted Therapy Groups

Horses and humans have had a connection for thousands of years. It’s this connection that has made horses experts in reading and mirroring human emotions, which has led to the popularity in equine-assisted therapy, also called Horse Therapy, Equine-Assisted Therapy, and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy.

McCaskill Family Services has teamed up with Howell Equestrian to offer equine therapy, which includes various activities, including therapeutic riding. A specialized equine therapist will give equine therapy patients direct feedback on their pattern of problematic behaviors, including self-defeating negative thoughts and actions.

Mindfulness Equine Group – Friday Evenings for Teens and Adults: Through gentle interactions with horses, guided meditation, and mindful movement, participants will cultivate a sense of calm, self-awareness, and stress reduction. Join our equine therapy mindfulness group, where horses and nature come together to support mental well-being. No riding required.

Equine Emotion Regulation Skills Group – Starting June 10, 2026:
Practice emotional regulation in a supportive, real-world environment with horses and a master ‘s-level psychologist as your support team. Through group sessions, your child will learn skills to help them tolerate distress and change, improve relationships, and identify their emotions and triggers. Horses are highly attuned to body language, energy, and emotional cues, making them ideal candidates for your child to practice their newly learned skills.
