BILLING & INSURANCE
We want you to be equipped with the knowledge and transparency of what your out-of-pocket visits will cost.
McCaskill Family Services is out-of-network with insurance companies. Fee is due at the time of service and can be paid by cash, check, or credit card. We strongly encourage all clients to keep a credit card on file stored in our secure, HIPAA-compliant vault.
Although we are out-of-network with insurance companies, we are a recognized out-of-network provider with BCBS of Michigan. Receipts are provided so patients can submit them to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. We will provide you with a statement to submit to your insurance company.
If you plan to try to get insurance coverage, we suggest you call your insurance provider and ask them what percentage is covered.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical treatment will cost. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
Private Pay vs. Insurance: Benefits of Paying Out-of-Pocket for Your Mental Health
A question we often get asked is, “Why don’t you take insurance?” Many years ago, we decided to leave insurance networks for a variety of reasons and would like to share the why with our clients and our community.
Insurance Coverage has limitations.
Insurance companies often have strict guidelines on which services are covered, how many sessions are allowed, and which conditions are deemed treatable under a specific plan.
Time spent with insurance providers can be time spent on the patient.
Dealing with insurance companies can be incredibly time-consuming, stressful, and mentally exhausting which distracts from our primary role of providing the highest standard of care to our patients.
Private information about you and/or your child should not be shared.
Insurance companies can request that private information you or your child share with us, also be shared with them.
No confusion regarding finances.
While insurance can alleviate some of the financial burden of mental health services, it doesn’t always provide adequate coverage. Co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs can be confusing and unpredictable.
Couples therapy is not covered by insurance.
Insurance companies do not see the value in couples counseling because there is no mental health diagnosis attached to it. We would not be able to offer premarital counseling, relationship check-ups, marital therapy, or couples counseling if we partnered with an insurance provider.
Better access and shorter wait times.
While insurance can alleviate some of the financial burden of mental health services, it doesn’t always provide adequate coverage. Co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs can be confusing and unpredictable.
We’re still here to help you use your benefits.
Even though we don’t bill insurance directly, many clients successfully use their out-of-network benefits.
The ability to provide care to those wanting 100% confidentiality.
Many of our patients want 100% privacy and confidentiality, and do not want their employers, insurance company or the public to have any knowledge of their participation in mental health care.
