Background
Sierra earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Eastern Michigan University and her Master’s degree in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Michigan- Dearborn. She works with children, adolescents, and adults who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem and body image issues, interpersonal conflicts, mood disorders, and other life struggles. Her treatment approach is integrative, using a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions, to create a treatment plan that best suits the client’s therapeutic goals. Sierra also administers psycho-educational evaluations and neuropsychological assessments.
Sierra is directly supervised by Dr. Nicole Wozniak.
Meet Sierra Sands
Sierra’s approach to therapy is patient-centered and eclectic. She utilizes a wide variety of treatment modalities to best fit the client’s needs. She also emphasizes what clients can do in between sessions, as she believes that is where “a lot of the real work happens”.
She specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. She particularly enjoys helping college students with their journey before, during, and after college. Her areas of focus include helping people work on their confidence and manage anxiety and depression. Sierra also enjoys working with families to help them integrate recommendations from comprehensive evaluations.
Her goal is to always create a warm and non-judgmental space, so clients can have the motivation to make positive changes and gain the skills to “flourish independently”. She acknowledges that change can be difficult but assures clients that she knows they are “capable of more” and that she can help them make those changes together.
