Evaluations for Eating Disorders
Concerned about an eating disorder? Here’s how we can help.
Are you concerned that you, your child, or a loved one may be showing signs of an eating disorder? These may include:
- Excessive exercise or obsession with body checking
- Noticeable weight loss or avoiding meals
- Excuses not to eat or frequent bathroom use after meals
- Finding hidden wrappers, food hoarding, or excessive calorie tracking
- Use of laxatives or complaints of stomach pain during meals
- Hair thinning, loss of menstrual cycle, or preoccupation with appearance
- Elimination of entire food groups (like carbs or fats)
- Switching to “clean eating” or “healthy eating” in an extreme way
- Wearing baggy clothes to hide weight changes
- Scarred knuckles, smell of vomit, or shame around eating
If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate this alone either.
Why Early Eating Disorder Treatment Matters
Whether you’re noticing early signs of disordered eating or have longstanding concerns, scheduling a professional eating disorder evaluation can offer clarity, support, and guidance. At McCaskill Family Services, we understand that eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that require early, compassionate intervention.
As a parent or caregiver, it’s normal to feel uncertain about how to bring up your concerns—especially with a teen or young adult. Many worry that talking about it might make things worse. But the truth is, early intervention can significantly reduce the risk of long-term medical complications and emotional distress. Our team is here to listen, not judge. We offer a safe, supportive space where we can explore your concerns, answer your questions, and help determine the best next steps for your family.
Disordered Eating in Everyday Life: Are You Struggling?
You don’t need to meet full diagnostic criteria for anorexia or bulimia to benefit from support. Many people struggle with disordered eating behaviors that impact their health, mood, and social life. Ask yourself:
- Do I feel upset when my eating or exercise routine is interrupted?
- Do I skip meals and then feel guilty for overeating later?
- Do I avoid social events that involve food?
- Do I obsess about food, body image, or weight loss, even if others say I’m “healthy”?
- Am I stuck in a cycle of chronic dieting, bingeing, or shame after eating?
These are all common struggles in a culture that promotes weight loss at all costs. But diet culture and food rules can lead to serious disordered eating patterns—and emotional support is just as important as nutritional guidance.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
McCaskill Family Services Eating Disorder Treatment and Recovery Program
Do you or your loved one need additional support working through eating disorder recovery? Our Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program is ideal for those who are medically stable and in need of additional structure and support than an outpatient level of care can provide. IOP provides meal planning, therapy, education, connection, support and guidance, all in an individual or group atmosphere.
What happens during IOP?
Our intensive outpatient session meets 3 days each week for 1.5 to 3 hours per day. With our therapists, dietitians and nursing staff, clients will participate in daily therapy, supervised meals, and educational sessions and have the option to add on individual sessions as needed with staff. Each client will also meet weekly with our nursing staff to monitor weight and vitals. Loved ones will have the option to attend our weekly Family Q&A sessions to speak directly to program staff.
Is Intensive Outpatient (IOP) the appropriate level of care right now?
Eating disorder treatment varies from weekly outpatient appointments to inpatient hospitalization. The IOP level of care is appropriate when the client is medically stable and cleared by their medical team, has fair motivation to recover, and is somewhat self-sufficient but needs additional structure and support at this phase in their recovery.
What eating disorders do you treat in IOP?
Our program treats anorexia nervosa, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa.
What if I already have a therapist or dietitian?
Our IOP staff will coordinate with each client’s current treatment team. Coordination of care will begin at intake and proceed throughout treatment.
What happens after IOP treatment concludes?
During IOP MFS staff will remain in contact with clients’ treatment team including physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, dietitians, coaches, schools, as needed to assist in coordination of care at program conclusion. If treatment staff determine a higher level of care may be necessary, they will consult with the client and/or family to determine the best course of action. If the client is ready for outpatient level of care, that will be discussed at the discharge planning appointments that are conducted that following week after IOP is completed.
How do we begin?
All interested clients will need to be cleared for treatment by their physician and schedule an intake evaluation with our staff at least 10 days in advance of their scheduled IOP start date. Intake evaluations can be scheduled by contacting our office at (734) 416-9098 or office@mccaskillfamilyservices.com. Our intake evaluations are a two appointment process and require a medical record review done by our nurse between the two appointments.
Call our office for more information about our individual IOP and for upcoming dates for group IOP.
