Dr. Michelle Byrd is the Clinic Director of our Brighton Office. She is a fully licensed clinical psychologist who practices evidenced-based treatments for children, families, and adults. In particular, Dr. Byrd has experience and expertise in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT) modalities such as parent management training (PMT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as other mindfulness-based approaches to clinical care. In addition, Dr. Byrd has both clinical and research experience in the integration of behavioral and medical care in primary healthcare settings, particularly in the area of pediatrics. A native of southeastern Michigan, Dr. Byrd earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and both her Masters and Doctoral degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno. She returned to the Detroit area in 2001 to complete her pre-doctoral internship at Henry Ford Health Sciences in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry where she gained considerable training and experience working with medically ill populations. In addition to her clinical practice at McCaskill Family Services, Dr. Byrd is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Eastern Michigan University where she has been employed since 2002. Dr. Byrd teaches graduate courses in Child and Family Therapy and Clinical Organizational Management while providing clinical supervision to doctoral students at a community health clinic. She has concentrated her research interests on integrated care and the development, dissemination and implementation of empirically validated treatments. Dr. Byrd has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on these topics, as well as having won awards for her mentoring and classroom teaching.
